The sanitation works in La Caleta de Interián will begin in mid-August

The sanitation works of the part that belongs to the Garachico municipality – the other is Los Silos – of the nucleus of La Caleta de Interián will begin in the second fortnight of next August, as announced yesterday by the Councilor for Municipal Cooperation of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Sonia Hernandez. The project to renew the sewerage networks is highly demanded by the population, its cost amounts to 1.1 million euros and the work is expected to last eight months.

Sonia Hernández stresses that “our efforts are going to focus on alleviating the sanitation deficit that Tenerife has.” The expansion and conditioning of the sanitation network of La Caleta de Interián has an award budget of 1,172,487.26 euros, of which the Cabildo contributes 90%, and the remaining 10% corresponds to the Garachico City Council.

The project contemplates the renovation of the current networks to reduce the deficit in the urban sewerage infrastructure. In addition, the construction of a rainwater network and new collectors is planned.

The area currently has a partial network that usually presents overflow problems, so the Cabildo, in collaboration with the northern City Council, will undertake the location of a 406-meter-long sewage collector on Paseo de Humboldt, which will collect wastewater from La Caleta.

Likewise, the placement of another collector is contemplated at the beginning of Mar de Plata street, on the seafront, in this case 65 meters that will intercept the fecal waters of the southern part of the urban nucleus.

Sonia Hernández, brand new councilor for the Partido Popular area, assures that “for us it is a priority to establish a direct dialogue with the Town Halls of the entire Island, in the search for solutions to the historical sanitation deficit that Tenerife has.”

On this aspect, Hernández stressed that “environmental policies must have a transversal nature in all government action that is carried out from the Cabildo.” The Minister of Municipal Cooperation also pointed out that “one of our objectives at the beginning of the mandate is to mark lines of work aimed at improving the comprehensive management of water, and specifically, issues related to sanitation.”

This action was highly demanded by the local population, since it will make it possible to expand the sanitation pipes in the area. The investment effort is based on the previous mandate, 2019-2023, to collaborate with the municipalities in improving the sanitation systems of the Island, especially in towns that have suffered from this service for years in modern conditions.

Being expensive actions, difficult to face by the municipalities, the economic support of the Cabildo is essential. The current insular government team now picks up the baton.
