The recent decision made by the city council to construct a new playground for children at one side of Plaza de la Iglesia del Pilar, with work scheduled to commence in September, has faced opposition from social and community groups. They allege that the council is “marginalising children with disabilities” in these areas.
The Queremos Movernos association has raised concerns that “Santa Cruz is a city that marginalises children with disabilities, as there are no facilities for everyone in the planned playgrounds. Excluding a child with a disability constitutes discrimination and is a punishable offence.”
Meanwhile, the Urban Centro El Perenquén Residents Association has stated that it will be seeking the full documentation of the project because “it must be inclusive this time, or it will not proceed.”
