Three municipalities in the South continue without confirming government pacts

With 24 hours to go before the constitution of the new local corporations, the parties are negotiating against the clock the pending agreements that will allow the formation of the next municipal governments in the South.

In Granadilla de Abona, after last week the PSOE (11 councilors) and PP (two) practically closed an agreement, in recent days the CC (10) has put all the meat on the spit to prevent that alliance from coming to fruition and retain by all means the Mayor’s Office of the second municipality with the largest population in the South.

For this, the nationalists need a pact with the two popular councilors and with VOX. CC does not rule out support from the councilors of Abascal’s party (one would suffice) for the investiture of José Domingo Regalado.

With the general elections just around the corner, Vox finds it difficult to form part of a local Executive chaired by a nationalist force, which in turn is a relief for CC, whose leadership has drawn a red line with Vox. Late yesterday, the PP, a decisive force in any scenario, valued the proposal, but had not yet confirmed its support for it.

Arico is waiting to see which parties take the reins of the local Executive. Either the PSOE, the first force, governs in alliance with another political force, or the CC leads a pact with the PP and Arico Somos Todos. Nationalist sources recognized yesterday a “prudent optimism.”

For its part, in Güímar, everything seems to happen because of the vote of the only mayor of United Sí Podemos, Nayra Caraballero, after the popular Luisi Castro won the elections, although without an absolute majority.

ARONA

In Arona, where PP, CC and Más Por Arona signed a pact that will remove the socialist José Julián Mena from the Mayor’s Office, they are trying to iron out some differences on account of the distribution of areas. Once it has been decided that the Mayor’s Office will go to Fátima Lemes (PP), who obtained more votes than CC and MxA, the distribution of responsibilities in local government is negotiated, where areas such as Urbanism have great weight.

It must be remembered that Luis García, one of the four MxA mayors, already managed the Urban Planning area until June 22, 2020, the date on which he was dismissed by Mena, which led to the breakup of the socialist government group. .
