The Minister of Ecological Transition, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning, José Antonio Valbuena, has signed the order suspending the General Management Plan of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the area of Cabo Llanos, thus, be able to adapt it to the building in the area of the new Palace of Justice. With the beginning of the suspension procedure of the General Management Plan (PGO), the modification of its normative content and the establishment of the substantive transitory regulations, as indicated this Wednesday by the Ministry of Public Administrations, Justice and Security .
This action aims to adapt urban planning to the new functional and surface requirements necessary to build the new Palace of Justice, a project promoted by the aforementioned Ministry, as recalled in a statement. This is an exceptional procedure provided for in the Law of the Land and Protected Natural Areas of the Canary Islands, explains the head of the autonomous department of Justice, Julio Pérez, who details that the exceptional action of suspension of planning is justified in view of the The need to provide citizens with an accessible justice service that groups together the Justice units throughout the judicial district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Those of a provincial and autonomous nature are also included, and it must be sufficient for the judicial bodies and legal operators to carry out their work, ending the dispersion of the facilities and the lack of operability between them, with the consequent improvement that all this will produce. in the attention to citizenship, adds Pérez.
As announced last July, this modification of urban planning and the substantive norms applicable temporarily on the land in which the suspension of the Plan is proposed does not vary, with respect to the current planning, the current buildable area, increases the free spaces by more than 30,000 square meters, decreases the road surface by almost 35,000 square meters and reduces profitable use to zero. It is an option that will allow the majority of the Palace of Justice to be located in two almost contiguous buildings, separated by a square, with the necessary buildable area and close enough to allow connection.
With this, the Ministry highlights, the aim is to reduce the excessive height foreseen for most of the buildings that will be built in the area without this implying a reduction in their use, expanding the green areas in the Cabo Llanos space.
The eventual location of the city of justice in those lands was, in addition, one of the arguments used then from the Cabildo to defend the controversial enlargement of line 2 of the Tenerife Tram along Avenida de Los Majuelos, a project that garnered great rejection from residents and merchants in the area.
