The Cabildo de Tenerife, through the Mobility area, has awarded the works for the construction of a pedestrian path between the bus stops of the La Quinta junction on the TF-5, in the municipality of Santa Úrsula, and the existing municipal sidewalks, in order to offer greater safety and comfort to pedestrian traffic in the area.

The area councilor, Enrique Arriaga, pointed out that with this pedestrian route, which will involve an investment of 255,082 euros, “the accessibility, security and comfort of those who go to the Titsa stops located on the Autopista del Norte“. The counselor added that it is about” improving the coexistence between road traffic and pedestrians, thus reducing the risks of run over and accidents. ”

The insular director of Mobility, José Alberto León, explained that in the area of this link pedestrians have to cross next to the roundabouts that channel the traffic from the entrances and exits to the junction and then join the existing pedestrian paths. Although the area around the junction has sidewalks on Calle El Acebuche and Avenida de Las Palmeras, it lacks a safe pedestrian path with minimal dimensions to connect both sides of the highway.

The construction of these paths has an execution period of six months. Among the works to be carried out, in the final section of Calle El Acebuche, the existing section of sidewalk will be continued, so that it runs along the edge of the sea side of the roundabout.

On the bridge that crosses the TF-5, to give continuity to the pedestrian itinerary along the right side of the road, the width of the right sidewalk will be increased, moving the lanes to the left, demolishing the sidewalk on the left side and reducing the width of the lanes at three meters each. This will make the sidewalk on the right bank 1.50 meters wide and safer and more comfortable for pedestrians.

On the other hand, after crossing the bridge, on the right shoulder there is a one meter wide ditch, which will be demolished to build the 1.8 meter wide sidewalk. Finally, in the initial section of Avenida de Las Palmeras, on the side of the access link to Santa Úrsula, the sidewalk will continue along the right bank under the wall until it connects with the existing sidewalk.

In order to execute the sidewalk on the right margin, the lanes will be moved to the left and, in turn, the dirt track will be moved maintaining the current width. To do this, the stone wall will be demolished in the section where the route is modified and it will be re-executed so that the dirt track continues to be three meters wide.
