Pedro Martín’s casting vote avoids proceedings against Javier Parrilla

The casting vote of the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, avoided in yesterday’s plenary session the opening of a procedure against the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Javier Parrilla, for having committed “supposed illegalities” by changing the fishing logo artisanal “unilaterally and failing to comply with the procedure, including approval in plenary session”. The nationalist Antolín Bueno defended the proposal during a tough debate with allusions to the president and his response, as well as the PSOE spokesperson, Marián Franquet. Parrilla appealed to his right to remain silent and not to take part “in this show.” In the end, a tie at 15, and one abstention in two successive votes. The president decided.

Bueno regretted this circumstance and reaffirmed the endorsement of the two reports in this regard, on January 26 and March 7, from the General Secretariat of the Plenary. The last one indicated “possible civil and criminal responsibilities” of Parrilla “for not following the established procedures and procedures.”

The group of Canarian Coalition He criticized Pedro Martín’s “lack of transparency”. Well he assessed: «PSOE, citizens and if we can Canary Islands They voted against fighting alleged corruption, but we are going to continue working to ensure that the law is complied with.” The counselor explains that “the report of March 7 indicates that the president has to initiate a procedure, via Decree, to elucidate legal responsibility.” He adds: “Pedro Martín does not start it and we will study whether that entails any legal responsibility on his part.”

During the session there was crossfire. Well, he told Martín “you are lying and for me you are not the president but the spokesman for the PSOE.” He even alluded to him disrespecting people with mental health issues in reference to a previous session.

Upon hearing expressions such as “possible political corruption” Martín, visibly uncomfortable, snapped at him “he went too far” and invited him to stick to the motion. The nationalist did not back down and maintained his dialectical position, although the tension gradually decreased.

Marián Franquet also intervened, downplaying the discussion about the logo and wondering why this worries the 375 families in the sector. He made a comparison between the 666,000 euros of investment in CC Fisheries (2016-2019) and the 2.5 million of the current mandate (2020-2023). He described the argument as Good “only to entangle”. And he concluded “Are you asking for political coherence? Can you tell me who voted to keep the Monument to Franco with a flag of seven stars?
