El Camino La Costa renews the Sendero Azul seal of quality for the third year

The Camino La Costa, which runs along the coast of the Hidalgo Point and which is popularly known as the Camino de San Juanito, has revalidated the quality mark of Sendero Azul. This is recognition granted by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (Adeac) to those itineraries and landscape elements throughout Spain that contribute to the sustainable use of the coast, collects the press release of the City Council.

It is the third time that this natural area of The lagoon receives this award consecutively, which accredits the environmental values of the municipality’s coast. The blue trail flag delivery ceremony will take place in Santiago de Compostela on February 24.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutierrezcelebrates the revalidation of a badge “This is recognition of the work that different areas of the municipal government, and in collaboration with other administrations, have been developing to improve and restore the natural and ethnological heritage of the coast.” And he adds: «In 2021 we recovered the status of Sendero Azul for the Camino La Costa and we have continued working on conservation, maintenance and also dissemination of the environmental values of this area, because it is important that the citizens who visit the place is conscious and respectful of the environment”.

The itinerary has a length of about 2.3 kilometers and its route can be done in an approximate time of 40 minutes, starting at Playa del Roquete and culminating in Charco de La Arena, after passing through the natural pool of El Arenisco. The route runs parallel to the shore, with its characteristic volcanic forms in which a great biodiversity can be found. The creation of bird watching points and the renewal of all the informative signage of the trails are some of the actions that the City Council, through the Department of Beaches and Pools, has carried out in recent times with the Transition Council Ecology, Fight against Climate Change and Territorial Planning of the Government of the Canary Islands.

As highlighted by the Laguna City Council in the press release, it is the only path of Tenerife that obtains this distinction, that they have only received two other itineraries in Canary Islands: El Time, in the La Palma municipality of Tazacorte, and the Bahía del Confital-Playa de las Canteras path, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Adeac is a non-profit association, responsible in Spain for the international programs of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE).
