The second vice president of the Cabildo de Tenerife and Minister of the Presidency and Finance, Berta Pérez, assures that the investments that the Island Corporation will carry out in the 31 municipalities of the Island next year will exceed 230 million euros, “Including the more than 15 million euros of investment in socio-sanitary infrastructures planned in Granadilla de Abona, Garachico, Arico or La Orotava, among other municipalities.”
To these items are also added, Pérez details, the 15 million euros that are planned to be invested in hydraulic works, the more than 7 million in housing, 4 million in sports infrastructures, 5 million investment in the Circuito del Engine de Granadilla de Abona or the more than 2 million of the Historical Heritage Plan. The investment package of the budgets prepared by the insular Government “also includes the money destined for the island’s natural and rural parks, including the Parque Nacional del Teidewhich adds more than 16 million euros ».
“Impeccably”
Berta Pérez indicates that the investments planned by the Cabildo in next year’s budgets “impeccably respect the territorial balance, prioritizing those works that are necessary for the Island as a whole.” She adds that “if the population criterion prevails, the bulk of the investments would have to be made in the municipalities of the metropolitan area, which is where the largest number of inhabitants are concentrated.”
“The budgets prioritize those works that are necessary for Tenerife”
«On the contrary, the Cabildo government team has prioritized territorial balance in this mandate so that citizens are equitable beneficiaries of island public policies, regardless of the municipality in which they live, their size or how far they are From the capital”. In this sense, the second vice president highlights that “the consensus with the municipalities has been a constant during this mandate.” «Proof of this are the three plans of job carried out since 2020, with a global investment of 29 million euros, following the criteria established by the Fecam, and aimed at all municipalities without exception, something that had never been done in this island Corporation, “he points out.
In addition, Pérez emphasizes the aid program for all municipalities to attend to the social emergency, endowed with 6.8 million, the program of activities for the elderly in collaboration with all the municipalities or the Municipal Modernization Plan, which “has the maximum consensus and that is highly appreciated by local corporations throughout the island.
Meeting with the municipalities
The Minister of the Presidency and Finance presented yesterday before the representatives of the town halls the draft budget of the Cabildo de Tenerife for 2023 at the Island Council of Territorial Administration (CIATT). For Berta Pérez, it is “important” to highlight that in cases such as La Laguna or Puerto de la Cruz there are investments that have “a clear island interest”, such as the Island Water Sports Center (Puerto de La Cruz), the very important works of the TF-24 (La Esperanza road) or the Padre Anchieta footbridge. “It would be ridiculous to think that only the residents of those municipalities are going to be able to benefit from these investments that have an indisputable interest for the entire Island.”
He also recalls that in municipalities such as Santa Cruz de Tenerife there are investments “as important” as the planned 1.5 million euros to finance actions in the Santa Catalina park. It also underlines the 675,000 euros planned in 2023 for the redemption of taxi licenses in the capital and the investments planned in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadiuminfrastructure also of undoubted insular interest.
Investment Examples
Other examples cited by the counselor Berta Pérez were the almost two million that are going to be allocated to the fight against termites, in Tacoronte, and in the case of La Orotava the investment that is going to be made in the Teobaldo Power Auditorium, the restoration of La Casa de los Balcones, the rehabilitation of the structure of the old convent of Santa Domingo, as well as investments in sports infrastructures, roads or sanitation works, among others, which far exceed 5 million euros.
