Next weekend, chicharreros will once again be able to enjoy the only recreational area in the capital, Las Mesas Park, where they can make chops while enjoying one of the best views of the city. . Yesterday, the Santa Cruz City Council received the work that the Cabildo has been carrying out during the last year and in which almost one million euros has been invested.

After many years of waiting, almost 15, yesterday, at one of the reformed tables in the park, the president of the Cabildo, Pedro Martín, and the mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, signed the delivery document for said work. It was the municipal councilor who informed that, throughout this week, the area will be cleaned up, so that, starting Friday, this space will be available, which will open from eight in the morning to seven in the afternoon in winter, and that it will extend its closure until nine o’clock in summer.

Neighbors will be able to enjoy a recreational area open to the public, a large children’s area, preferential reserved spaces for people with disabilities, an area equipped to enjoy nature, and even a small zip line in the children’s play area.

According to the decree signed by the Public Services area, headed by Carlos Tarife, the stoves, some thirty, may be used from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from November to April, and until 7:00 p.m. from May to October.
The use of sound equipment with amplification is prohibited, it will not even be allowed to enter the park, while the noise emission may not exceed eight decibels.

The use of portable barbecues is also prohibited, as is carrying water outside the premises. Horses or motor vehicles and bicycles may not transit through the area of stoves or games. It will not be possible to camp and it is noted that it will not be possible to reserve tables. Both Martín and Bermúdez called for the responsibility of citizens to maintain a space that has been vandalized on multiple occasions, one of the issues that has precisely delayed the delivery of the work.

Security

To guarantee security, the Forestry Unit, the Local Police and Parks and Gardens personnel will be present in the area to guarantee that no acts of vandalism are committed, for which, the City Council recalls, fines of more than 200 euros can be imposed. .

The insular president pointed out that “Las Mesas park is a natural balcony over the Port of Santa Cruz and over the city. After many difficulties, it is true that due to the damage that has had to be repaired, fortunately the city recovers this environment. The agreement between the Cabildo and the City Council has allowed it to give it this boost with an investment of more than 900,000 euros, which now we all have to take care of”.

For his part, José Manuel Bermúdez stated that “this is an important day for this municipality and I thank the Cabildo that these long-awaited works have finally been completed, in a recreational environment that was widely used, not only by the neighbors and residents of Santa Cruz, but of the entire metropolitan area” .

The councilor added that “the cafeteria still needs to be tendered, the public concession must be obtained, and we are thinking of providing a service through a food truck, which would be located in the parking lots.”
