
The City Council of La Laguna has informed this Friday that it will place a giant screen in the Hermano Ramón square to support the Tenerife swimmer Michelle Alonso this Sunday in her fight for the gold medal in the 100 meters breaststroke at the Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
Among those attending the event will be family members of the athlete, colleagues from the Midayu Tenerife Club and representatives of the local government, reports the municipality of Lagunero in a statement.
The mayor of the city, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, invites citizens to live from La Laguna “this very important moment for Michelle Alonso”, and thus send “all our energy so that she can achieve this dream.”
Hermano Ramón Square will open its doors around 09:00 on Sunday, until the capacity is completed, so that interested people can follow the competition.
During the event, they will also distribute silk-screened shirts with the phrase “the dream starts here”, the motto chosen by the council to support Michelle Alonso in Tokyo.
“From the Government group we want to embrace this athlete, who personifies the values that we defend from the corporation, and I have no doubt that, with that effort, affection and perseverance that define her, she will continue to make history in national and national adapted sport. international ”, says the mayor.
The Tenerife swimmer, also the flag bearer of Spain in this edition, will compete this Sunday in the 100 meters breaststroke (the final will take place from 09:26 hours), where she is the current double champion.
He will also do so after having reached the final of the 200 free S14 this Friday, and after obtaining the Olympic diploma for reaching eighth position.
The live broadcast is part of the collaboration agreement recently signed between the City Council and the Midayu Tenerife Club, of which Michelle Alonso is a member.
