Suffocating morning in Canary Islands with zones at more than 30 degrees. The thermometers remained during the first hours of Monday so high in the Archipelago that even the country’s maximums have been registered on the Island, where in addition the minimums have not been cool either.
It is the summary of the beginning of this Monday in which the Meteorology Statal Agency (Aemet) foresees a reduction in the heat wave that the Canary Islands, and a good part of the country, have been suffering since last Friday.
The oven of the Archipelago and of Spain was located again in the interior and south of Gran Canaria, an area that has been the main hot spot of this episode. Thermometers of up to 36.1 degrees in El Matorral (San Bartolomé de Tirajana) or just over 35 in Tasarte and Agüimes set a heat record in the national territory, along with 34.2 in Lomo Pedro Afonso.
To these towns is added the capital of La Gomerawith 33.9 degrees, to complete the TOP five of the hottest parts of the country this morning.
But they are not the only points of the Archipelago in which the high temperatures have made it difficult for the population to rest. According to the data collected first thing in the morning by the Aemet, another nine island stations exceeded 30 degrees during the early hours: Las Tirajnas (Gran Canaria), with 33.2 degrees; High Luck (Gran Canaria), 32.6; Gran Canaria airport, 32.5; Haría (Lanzarote), 32.4; Candlemas (Tenerife), with 31.3 degrees; Pájara (Fuerteventura), at 31; Güímar (Tenerife), with 30.6; Puntagorda (La Palma), 30.03 degrees and Anaga (Tenerife), which registered 30 degrees at one in the morning.
To them are added many others that have registered maximums of between 25 and 30 degrees in all the Islands. The coolest: Izaña, where the workers of the Meteorological Center of Tenerife and the Teide Observatory were able to enjoy a night that did not exceed 19 degrees.
The problem is also in the minimum recorded in the island geography, where only the summit of Tenerife and San Andrés y Sauces have managed to stay below 20 degrees. In all the others, the thermometers have moved between that figure and 30 degrees. Quite a heat wave.
Forecast
throughout today, Meteorology forecasts that temperatures will drop slightly, although the Canary Islands will remain on a yellow notice due to heat until at least six in the afternoon. It will be from then on when the heat wave gives a truce to the Islands: throughout tonight the mercury will begin to subside and tomorrow a general drop in the thermometers is expected, which will remain in a more pleasant range at least until next Thursday.
In addition, today the slight episode of haze will continue in the Islands and the wind, which blows from the North, will have intervals of strong gusts in the western islands.
