Sales of protection products increased due to the impact of the pandemic

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE/MADRID, June 27. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The value of sales of self-produced products from the manufacturing industry in the Canary Islands amounted to 2,698 million euros in 2021, according to the Annual Industrial Products Survey, published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE). At the national level, the value of sales of self-produced products from the manufacturing industry amounted to 456,635 million euros last year.

The data for the year 2021 that this survey collects obeys a new methodology, based on a probabilistic design, and not by cuts as was done until now, to reach 100% of the companies in the sector. Thus, according to the previous methodology, the value of sales of manufacturing industry products in 2021 would be 431,462 million euros, 16.3% more than in 2020.

By sectors, the branches that contributed the most to the total sales of own production of the manufacturing industry in 2021 were the food industry, with 21% of the total, the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (10.9 %) and the chemical industry (8.6%). On the other hand, the activities of the tobacco industry, the leather and footwear industry and the manufacture of clothing had a lower contribution, of 0.1%, 0.6% and 0.7%, respectively.

By region, Catalonia was the autonomous community with the greatest weight in the number of sales of self-produced products, with 22.5% of the total. It is followed by Andalusia (11.7%) and the Valencian Community (10.7%), while the Balearic Islands (0.3% of the total), the Canary Islands (0.6%) and La Rioja (1%) are the ones that they had less weight.

SALES OF PROTECTION PRODUCTS INCREASE DUE TO THE PANDEMIC

The Covid-19 pandemic had a notable effect on the manufacture of personal protection products by the Spanish manufacturing industry, due to the strong demand for them by the population. Thus, in 2021 more than 320 million masks were sold (277.5 million facial protection and 52.4 million with FFP filter), almost two million protection screens and 34,332 tons of hand sanitizing gels. The value of these sales was 107 million euros in masks, four million in screens and 76 million in gels.

Likewise, in relation to other manufactured products of our own manufacture, among the highest sales figures in 2021 were gasoline vehicles with a cylinder capacity of less than or equal to 1,500 cubic centimeters for the transport of less than 10 people (12,867 million euros), food prepared for feeding pigs (4,413 million euros) and diesel vehicles with a cylinder capacity between 1,500 and 2,500 cm3 intended for the transport of less than 10 people (4,350 million euros).
