Neighbors of Llano del Camello reject the place chosen by the San Miguel de Abona City Council to build the Industrial water treatment (WWTP) provisional of Llano del Camello. They consider that its proximity to facilities and establishments to the public, as well as to homes in this town, is not justified. They understand that there are spaces that meet better conditions to build this infrastructure without harming either the resident population or the economic activity of the environment.
Neither the explanations offered by the municipal government in a meeting chaired by the mayor, Arturo González, nor the documentation to which they have had access convinces the residents. Thus, make an appeal to residents with the purpose of designing and developing an action plan in defense of their interests and the quality of life in Llano del Camello. They do not rule out taking the legal actions that may be necessary, in the event that their demands are disregarded.
At the meeting held this week, the councilor asked the residents to initiate the consultation procedure between the different communities that make up the town and transfer a final position to the Town Hall, with the commitment that the municipal government will support it. “We have six months ahead” to do so, he explained after noting that it is the estimated period to award the construction of the treatment plant.
The bidding process is already underway, with an execution budget of 1,365,116 euros. Taking advantage of the material needs for the work of the new Oroteanda junction on the highway, the excavation and clearing of the site of the Llano del Camello WWTP began. The residents are not in a position to spend between three and five years enduring bad odors, until the large regional treatment plant of Montaña Reverón is built, in the process of being awarded and executed.
The technicians present at the meeting between residents and authorities made it clear that the possible location alternatives proposed by those affected require modification of the General Management Plan.
