The Canary Islands approve the ‘covid decree’ and will request vaccination or diagnostic tests by labor sectors

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Sep 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Governing Council of the Canary Islands has approved this Thursday the decree law that brings together control measures against the spread of Covid-19 and that includes, among other things, the possibility of requesting diagnostic tests, by labor sectors, for workers who have not been vaccinated, both in the public and private sectors.

This has been pointed out at a press conference by the President of the Executive, Ángel Víctor Torres, who has indicated that it will be necessary to certify complete vaccination or an “alternative test” for the exercise of work activity in order to “give greater security” now that 70% of the Canarian population is vaccinated.

This regulation, included in article 14 of the decree, gives rise to the health authorities to determine which work areas they can request both full vaccination and negative diagnostic tests, but it is still to be developed, government sources specify.

Torres has pointed out that many parts of the decree are inspired by what was approved in the Basque Country or Aragon and has advanced that the text will be published on Monday in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) and will be sent to the Canary Islands Parliament to be processed as a project of law.

The president has not specified which professional sectors are affected but has given by way of example that “it does not make sense” that there are teachers who do not want to be vaccinated, although “it is legitimate”, and have to teach children and young people, the largest part of them vaccinated.

He has commented that the Government has gone “to the maximum” of what the laws allow and “it is not a subterfuge” or a way to “go against any court”, on the contrary, it is about bringing together the more than twenty agreements of the last year in a single document that is “flexible” and can be modified if the pandemic improves or worsens.

With almost 30 articles and about 80 pages, the document establishes by law the use of the mask, the safety distance or the gauges and maintains the limitation of people by alert levels in line with what the Superior Court has ratified this Thursday of Justice of the Canary Islands (TSJC).

MAINTAIN THE LIMITATIONS OF PEOPLE

Thus, Torres has detailed that the islands that are in level 1 will be able to open the establishments 100% abroad and 75% inside, with a maximum of 10 people and close at 03.00 hours; on level 2, 75% outdoors and 50% indoors, with six people per table and closing at 02.00; on level 3, 75% outside and 40% inside, with four people per table and closing at 01.00 and on level 4, 75% capacity outside, 25% inside, table with 4 people and closing at 01.00 hours.

He has also pointed out that “nightlife is open” in the Canary Islands, something that is allowed given the “high degree of vaccination” on the islands, and for islands that are at epidemiological alert level 4, in the event of an outbound trip from will request the vaccination certificate or a negative diagnostic test.
