Agents of the Operational Unit of Internal Security and Administrative Police (Uosipa), of the General Corps of the Canary Police, opened a sanctioning file against an alleged “false company” of active tourism for carrying out sports activities without the corresponding titles or permits. During the past weekend, two agents, accompanied by an official and accredited canyoning guide, located in the Badajoz ravine, in the municipality of Güímar, a false guide and a collaborator while they were carrying out hiking and hiking activities. canyoning with twelve clients.
According to the investigations carried out by the agents, the active tourism company did not count as registered or authorized to carry out this type of activity, but it offered its hiking and canyoning services through social networks. In addition, payments made by customers were allegedly made without an invoice and through the Bizum platform. Likewise, they report that the prices established were “notably lower” than the usual rates that govern the sector specialized in these activities.
The agents verified that both the guide and the collaborator lacked the mandatory official qualification for this type of excursion. In addition, they did not prove that they had the mandatory insurance. The clients also did not have approved material to carry out the activity they carried out – they used skating helmets or climbing harnesses instead of those stipulated for ravines – nor did they have auxiliary rescue rope, which is mandatory in this type of service. as reported by the Autonomous Police in a statement.

For all this, they transfer to the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Canary Islands Government a proposal to sanction this supposed “false company” for, presumably and among other reasons, not complying with Decree 226/2017, of November 13, which approves the Regulation that establishes the legal regime for the development of business activities. active tourism, as well as Law 7/1995, of April 6, on the Tourism Organization of the Canary Islands. The Possible penalty that this company faces ranges between 30,001 and 300,000 euros for violating section 3 of Article 75 of the latter law, which states that failure to comply with current provisions on tourism infrastructure, quality standards or provision of services is considered a very serious violation.
