The Cross port work with volunteers from Red Cross who pay attention to Ukrainians that on February 24 they saw how their country was bombed by Russian troops while they were spending their vacations in Tenerife. Tourists who, to this day, remain trapped on the Island.

“Some have made the decision to stay because they have dual nationality and have requested to enroll their children in the city’s educational centers,” he declared before the microphones of COPE Canary Islands the mayor of the municipality of Tenerife, Marco González, who recalls that the City Council “has always been an example of help in hard times”.

“They are people with resources but who, with the situation in their country, are seeing that now they do not have; therefore, from social services, in coordination with the Red Cross, we are doing what we can”, he explains. Likewise, the Consistory is “coordinating the work with minors, from our competence, and the educational centers have given them school material.”

Red Cross assists 243 Ukrainians trapped in Tenerife

The Red Cross has provided assistance to 243 Ukrainian people who were temporarily on the island of Tenerife and cannot return to their country after the Russian invasion, and who have requested information on international protection and the processing of asylum requests.

Of this figure, 116 people are in a vulnerable situation and have been sheltered in temporary accommodation resources managed by the Red Cross in Tenerife, and among them there are 35 minors.

In addition, the accommodation of another 10 people is planned for the next few days, as reported by the humanitarian organization in a statement on Friday.

Likewise, another 14 people, who have not required this benefit as they have a social support network on the island, have required aid to cover basic needs, such as maintenance, cards for purchases in supermarkets, deliveries of goods and optics.
