Bajamar commemorates its 60th anniversary of being designated a National Tourist Interest Zone with a memorable day filled with activities and culinary delights. “This acknowledgment has significantly influenced the progression of this coastal haven,” remarked the Councillor for Tourism of La Laguna, Estefanía Díaz.
The village welcomed a substantial turnout of residents and tourists, “who wished to partake in this celebration that underscores the significance of Bajamar not just for its locals, but for the entire municipality of La Laguna,” emphasised Díaz, who highlighted “the wonderful atmosphere and warmth that permeates the event, which characterises us as a community and as a unique destination for leisure and culture.”
The natural pools and promenade served as the backdrop for this festive occasion. The event, titled ‘Cañas y Camarones’, organised by the Department of Tourism in collaboration with Marcha Go, featured local restaurants and businesses, “who made remarkable efforts to provide a distinctive culinary experience, showcasing that Bajamar remains a leading tourist destination that draws visitors from all over,” added the councillor.
Among the contributors were Catering Comidas Aimar, Balance Comidas y Catering, and other notable establishments such as Anclados, La Caseta, and Bohemios Foodies. Each prepared and showcased their specialties, ranging from traditional tapas to more inventive dishes, consistently highlighting local produce.
One of the most anticipated moments that captured the morning’s attention was the crafting of a ‘giant paella’ by Comidas y Catering Aimar, drawing dozens of diners eager to savour this dish prepared with the finest seafood ingredients. Additionally, the culinary offerings included the essential shrimp tapas served alongside chilled beers, a combination that was a must on this special occasion, which was also celebrated with ‘Gambino y Barri’.
For the younger attendees, a children’s zone was established featuring games, craft workshops, and a variety of activities. A water volleyball tournament on the beach is among the highlights planned for young individuals.
Local Market
This presents an opportunity to promote local brands and products. Approximately fifteen local brands participated in an open-air market, allowing visitors to purchase products, fashion, and accessories that reflect La Laguna’s local talent. “This market signifies an opportunity to enhance the area’s economy, as well as a platform to showcase local artistry and production,” added Estefanía Díaz.
Live music featured prominently throughout the day, enhancing the atmosphere with a line-up of performing artists. Included were Maria Al Revès, the new musical venture of singer-songwriter Airam Ramos, Agua del Chorro, Divine:Timing, Sistah Vibes, Frankawara, and Young P.
Simultaneously, the Department of Tourism aimed to take advantage of the occasion to emphasise Bajamar’s cultural heritage, considering this recognition as a National Tourist Interest Zone as a catalyst for its development. To facilitate this, an information tent was created to share Bajamar’s history and attractions with the public, alongside a photographic exhibition documenting significant moments and memories in the town’s tourism evolution.
“With such high attendance, a diverse culinary selection, family-friendly activities, and a vibrant musical line-up to engage the public, this day will surely remain in everyone’s recollection. Bajamar is demonstrating it is more dynamic than ever, reinforcing its position on the tourist map as a locale that continues to captivate residents and visitors alike with its natural splendour, cultural offerings, and rich history. It was indeed a day to embrace the future with optimism,” he emphasised.
