San Miguel de Abona and Ecoembes make the Intelligent Recycling Assistant (AIRE) available to the public. It is about improving the participation of citizens in the recycling system. To do this, the website of the San Miguel City Council makes the chatbot available to users, which will answer any doubts that arise in this matter.

The Councilor for General Services, Julián Martín, assures that the selective collection of waste in the municipality has “grown remarkably” in recent years. In fact, he emphasizes that “not even the pandemic was a break.” The mayor is aware that the public “continues to have doubts about which container to deposit certain waste in.” In order to answer this question and, thereby, facilitate recycling, “we have incorporated the Ecoembes Intelligent Recycling Assistant (AIRE) into the municipal website.”

Martín explains that AIRE is a resource developed in 2019 by The Circular Campus, the Ecoembes innovation center, whose activity revolves around the circular economy. The purpose is to resolve all doubts, indicating immediately in which container the consulted waste should be deposited.

The app is available for free download on mobile devices through Google Play and the Apple store. Likewise, inquiries can be made through other platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Twitter, Facebook Messenger, as well as on the Ecoembes website and the San Miguel de Abona website itself.

Ecoembes (www.ecoembes.com) is the non-profit entity that manages the recovery and recycling of plastic containers, cans and briks (yellow container) and cardboard and paper containers (blue container) throughout Spain. In 2020, almost 1.5 million tons of light packaging and cardboard and paper packaging were recycled throughout the national territory. Thanks to this, the emission of 1.67 million tons of CO2 into the atmosphere was avoided, for example.
