SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Aug 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Canary Island Coalition of Tenerife has rejected this Friday the proposal of the Government of the Canary Islands to intervene in the puddles of the island since these are “ecosystems of great fragility from the environmental point of view, especially due to their associated marine and terrestrial flora-fauna, places also very vulnerable to possible changes in their habitat especially for native and endemic species “.

Tenerife’s nationalists have shown their total refusal of the intention of the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands to draw up a Master Plan for intervention on the coast of the Islands, in which it is intended to consolidate a network of puddles as a tourist attraction that contribution differentiation and added value to the destination, which includes a total of 117 pools for the entire Canary Islands that will be equipped with facilities such as a solarium and shaded areas among other actions.

In this sense, the nationalists propose a series of alternative actions to said intervention with the aim of “establishing the true limits of growth to which our territory must aspire to continue advancing on the already initiated path of sustainability”.

Among the proposals put forward by CC de Tenerife, through its Tourism and Territory Sector Commissions, is to increase the budget for scientific studies on the biodiversity of these fragile ecosystems, the geological formations that surround them and biological evolution, as well. like the effects of climate change in these spaces.

IMPROVE WATER QUALITY

In the same way, they propose to bet firmly on the improvement of the quality of the water of the coasts, they point out in a note.

Likewise, CC proposes to support the adaptation of those that already have a significant influx due to their easy access and location, but “in no case” the proposed list of nothing more and nothing less than 117 puddles throughout the Canary Islands.

Tenerife’s nationalists also propose the implementation of a comprehensive beach plan in an equal manner for the entire territory, providing them with the necessary services to improve the tourist experience and accessibility, since the current ones have countless shortcomings.

From CC de Tenerife they recall that the words of the marine biologist, Pablo Martín, promoter of the campaign ‘Los Charcos no se toucan’ on the Change.org platform that has collected more than 5,400 signatures in just 4 days, announcing his concern about the fragility of these spaces since it considers that “converting these areas free of mass tourism and cement into tourist areas would irreparably damage these points of the Canarian coast, which represent a refuge for the island’s biodiversity”.

Likewise, for CC de Tenerife, “intervening in many of these spaces implies a loss of the natural landscape with great impact from the landscape point of view”.

On the other hand, from the tourist point of view, from CC they believe that Tenerife “must plant today the seed that aspires to a renewed, respectful tourism, capable of offering opportunities to present and future generations and this is our commitment to this land. “.

ENVIRONMENTAL RISK

For this reason, they continue, “we consider that interventions such as those that the Government of the Canary Islands intend to carry out with this plan collide head-on with the so-called ‘Blue Economy’ that it wants to consolidate in the islands.”

In tourism, they indicate, “we are committed to digitization, innovation and sustainable development, and projects like these take us away from these parameters because they involve an increase in the number of users, which calls into question the carrying capacity of these spaces from the point of view of biological, environmental and even safety view “.

“If something has become clear throughout the long experience of the Canary Islands as a world-class tourist destination, it is precisely that the diversification of the tourist offer enriches the destination, improves the traveler’s experience and positions it compared to other destinations competitors “, say the Tenerife nationalists.

In CC they insist that the tourist profile that comes to the shores of the islands to enjoy the puddles “seeks different experiences from the classic sun and beach, that is, many tourists look for the puddles as an exclusive and alternative space, where they feel away from the overcrowding and the intervention of the human being “.

In fact, they point out, “they seek an experience more in contact with nature, merge with the environment and get lost in secret places, and with an invasive tourist promotion of these spaces, as well as the provision of services, precisely it moves away from that experience by the one that the puddles really today are attractive since we would break the essence that makes them unique “.
