The Elderly Area of the Arona City Council has set up a legal service that aims to decrease deadlines that are applied in the processing of fundamental aid. Specifically, from the period that elapses from when the neighbor submits the request for recognition of their dependent status until the request is resolved and they receive the benefit or aid, a process that currently takes several years, says the local government.
The competence in dependency matters corresponds to the regional government. However, there are municipalities, including Arona, that provide support to the regional Executive by undertaking part of the regulated procedure. In this way, the Consistory tries to fulfill the objective that the file be resolved “in the most agile way possible,” it says in a statement. “Nevertheless, it may take several years until the entire route is completed, which is why Arona has put this legal service into operation, which seeks to guarantee the right of the dependents of the municipality, “emphasizes the government group that leads the socialist José Julian Mena.
The City Council of Arona has launched the aforementioned legal service with the aim of providing advice to aron users, on the one hand, as well as helping them in the so-called “previous claim”. This is a usual procedure that must be carried out six months after the formal presentation of the aid application without having received a response. Another of the purposes of this new legal service makes it easier for the beneficiary to file a complaint with the Common Deputy for this reason.
Around 25,000 inhabitants of Arona are over 60 years old, that is, 25% of the census
With all this, affects the government group, it is about helping to streamline and / or accelerate the processing of dependency or disability for those who make up an important index of municipal demography. “Although dependency does not exclusively affect the elderly, it does have a high incidence in this segment of the population,” notes the local government. Along these lines, he also states that, in the case of Arona, the census allows him to ensure that around 25,000 inhabitants of the municipality -equivalent to 25% of the census- are residents who are over 60 years old. All this has led to the implementation of this service by the area for the Elderly, which can be accessed by making an appointment by calling 010, within the limits of Arona.
The procedure for accessing these aids or benefits begins when the municipalities send the request so that the applicant’s degree of dependency can be assessed, a task that is completed by the Government of the Canary Islands after the corresponding study. “All this can take between a year and a half and two years.” The process uses a similar period from when the assessment is made until the Individual Care Program is issued, the so-called PIA, which determines the most appropriate intervention modality for the claimant. In the case of Arona, this procedure is carried out by the City Council, which can lead to a saving of a year and a half in the file.
