Almost a million to channel wastewater from Punta Larga to the Basilica

The contribution of 976,733 euros euros by the Insular Council of Waters of Tenerife (Ciatf) completes the financing that Candelaria needs to undertake the sanitation network that will allow the wastewater to be transferred to the regional sewage treatment plant, which is in the testing phase after its construction on Arafo land. the mayor, Mari Brito, alluded to the fact that these works “are essential” and stressed that the financing of the Cabildo and Ciatf “has been essential to complement the financing we need so that all the sanitation actions that the municipality needs go ahead.”

Build the sanitation network of Punta Larga to the Basilica forms “a decisive section”, since, in addition to being an area of great population concentration, it will join the remodeling works of the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias and the drive from San Blas to the Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant (Edaru), with a capacity to treat 7,000 cubic meters per day. “These works are essential for the progress of the municipality,” said the councilor.

The City Council of Candelaria and the Cabildo formalized the agreement with its signature by the president of the Island Corporation, Peter Martin, and the Mayor of Candelaria, Mari Brito, with the assistance of the Councilor for Urban Agenda and Environmental Planning and Management, Cecilia Otazo, and the Island Councilor for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez.

“This agreement with the City Council of Candelaria is one more investment that we have been making in different municipalities with the start-up of large purification centers throughout the Island,” said Martín. Along these lines, he defended that from the island government “we want this mandate to be that of the transformation in the treatment of wastewater in Tenerife, one of the pending issues for many years and a priority objective.”

“It is necessary to transform the wastewater management model”

Priority that applies to “investment in wastewater treatment and achieve the transformation of an island that has historically discharged most of its waters into the sea into another that is respectful of the marine environment and for this it is necessary to transform the management model wastewater”, the president concluded when signing the document.

The Minister for Sustainable Development and the Fight against Climate Change, Javier Rodríguez Medina, wanted to highlight that “very important investments are being made from the Island Water Council that have to do with the treatment of urban water and industrial water. This tandem represents an investment of more than twenty million euros, but we have not stopped there, we have also wanted to show solidarity with the distribution network of municipal sanitation networks”.
