La Laguna Now: Spain Celebrating from Festival to Festival – Events for the 2025 Fiestas del Carmen in the Canaries

This July, the Canary Islands celebrate the Festivals of Our Lady of Carmen, a festival in honour of the patroness of fishermen and sailors.

This is why several coastal municipalities of the Archipelago commemorate this day with a programme full of events that not only take place on the solemn day with the maritime procession, which is usually held on 16 July, but also with a wide variety of celebrations throughout the month of July.

Agenda of celebrations for Our Lady of Carmen in the Canary Islands, island by island

Thus, in 2025, nearly a dozen localities in the Islands will celebrate the Festivals of Carmen, a traditional event that the Canary Islands experience every summer with much anticipation and deep-rooted tradition. Below are some of the most noteworthy events of the Festivals of Our Lady of Carmen 2025.

Gran Canaria

La Isleta (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria): the fishing district of the capital of Gran Canaria began its celebrations in honour of Our Lady of Carmen on Sunday, 6 July, with the descent of the Virgin from her shrine and the reading of the proclamation. However, the main day will be celebrated on 15 July with the Rosario de la Aurora at five in the morning and the Diana Floreada. The traditional Romería Marinera and Offering to Our Lady of Carmen will take place on 19 July.

Playa de Mogán: the Festivals of Carmen in the municipality of Mogán will take place from 16 July to 3 August. With a wide range of religious and cultural events for all ages, such as verbenas, traditional games, and a funfair, among others, the mass and subsequent land procession to the lighthouse will inaugurate the festivities on 16 July at 19:00 hours.

Arguineguín: featuring religious, traditional, and cultural events, Arguineguín will host a programme of festive activities for the Festivals of Carmen from this Monday, 7 July, until 20 July. Thus, on 16 July, the Eucharist and land procession to the beach of Las Marañuelas will take place.

Tenerife

Puerto de la Cruz: from 3 to 31 July, the city of Puerto de la Cruz celebrates the Grand July Festivals in Honour of the Great Power of God, Our Lady of Carmen, and Saint Telmo. With an extensive calendar of events, the coastal locality will hold the land/maritime procession on Tuesday, 15 July, at 18:30 hours from Quintana to the Fishing Wharf.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife: the Tenerife capital joins the celebration of the Festivals of Carmen. With a programme that includes sporting activities and recognitions for the Port Community, the procession will take place on 16 July in the Ribera Dock of Santa Cruz port and on 20 July in the Valleseco bay area.

Lanzarote and La Graciosa

La Graciosa: from 6 to 27 July, the island will host numerous activities for all ages, such as competitions, workshops, and communal barbecues. The main day will take place on 16 July from 12:00 hours with the Solemn Mass, the celebration of the pablara at 17:00 hours, followed by the maritime procession and floral offering in memory of those lost at sea aboard the vessel ‘Ariaguin.

Villa de Teguise: the events will start on 3 July and continue until 16 July with the land procession through the historic centre, culminating the Festivals of Carmen in the Lanzarote municipality.

Fuerteventura

Corralejo (La Oliva): as every year, the northern town of Fuerteventura celebrates the Festivals of Our Lady of Carmen, which began on Saturday, 5 July, with the Bola Canaria Tournament. The calendar of events will extend until 20 July, with the main day being 16 July featuring the Procession of the Image through the streets of Corralejo to the Muelle Chico, where the traditional maritime event will continue.

La Palma

Tazacorte: on 4 July, the celebration of the Festivals of Carmen began in the Villa and Port of Tazacorte.
