There are places that take your breath away without asking for permission, suspended between the sky and the earth. Places that not only offer a view but provide a complete sensory experience. Those that invite you to keep silent and simply look.
One such place is located high up in a small Atlantic gem. A village declared the most beautiful in Spain by the international press. There, the landscape is not merely observed: it is soared over.
The village of Agulo
Situated on the island of La Gomera, the municipality of Agulo has been highlighted by the British newspaper The Times as one of the most beautiful spots in the country. It is no coincidence. Its traditional houses, the reddish hue of its roofs, and its natural surroundings have earned it a special place on tourist routes. But there is something more that makes it unique.
A hanging glass structure, more than 600 metres above sea level, has turned this Canary corner into one of the must-visit destinations.
This is the viewpoint
The Mirador de Abrante was built in 2014 and extends over an area of more than 3,000 square metres. However, what truly distinguishes it is its walkway: a glass box suspended over the void, jutting out seven metres above the landscape. This glass platform is supported by a metal structure and a solid reinforced concrete beam. At the end of the walk, visitors find themselves literally floating over a natural balcony with views of the Atlantic Ocean, the village of Agulo, and, on clear days, the imposing silhouette of Teide on the neighbouring island of Tenerife.
A restaurant with views
A stone’s throw from the viewpoint is also the Restaurante Abrante, where some of the most emblematic dishes of Canary cuisine can be enjoyed. For those wishing to plan their visit, it is important to know that access to the viewpoint is free and that it is located very close to the Juego de Bolas Visitor Centre, an ideal starting point to explore La Gomera.
Opening Hours
The opening hours of the Mirador de Abrante vary according to the time of year:
From June to September, it is open from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm.
From October to November, the hours are brought forward: from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm. With free entry and a picture-perfect location, this viewpoint confirms itself as one of the great treasures of the Canary Islands. One of those places where the islands show their most spectacular side, hanging between the sky and the sea.
