Transgourmet Ibérica strengthens its presence in Las Palmas with over 6,900 customers

Transgourmet Ibérica has consolidated its position in the Canary Islands, establishing itself in Las Palmas as a benchmark for wholesale food distribution with a total portfolio of over 6,900 clients and a turnover exceeding 29 million euros.

With its business model, Transgourmet has positioned itself in the province as a leading supplier to the hospitality sector, currently serving 6,800 clients, thanks to a service and range tailored to the specific needs of each professional.

To achieve this, it has two major GM Cash cash & carry centres located in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, with areas of 2,800 and 3,119 square metres respectively. Alongside these cash & carries, it has its Food Service division, an exclusive service that guarantees direct delivery to businesses, and is planning to build a new GM Cash in Fuerteventura.

The company has also invested in expanding its franchise supermarket network, which strengthens its presence in the region and its connection to the local environment. In total, it operates 11 stores under the Suma brand (7 on the island of Gran Canaria, 3 on Lanzarote, and 1 on Fuerteventura) and 1 Proxim in Gran Canaria. Moreover, it supplies more than 90 independent clients, including retailers, independent supermarket chains, and local distributors.

In Gran Canaria, in the municipality of Ingenio, the logistics platform that supports the robust logistical network the company has in the archipelago is located. Covering an area of 11,900 square metres, this facility handles over 2 million boxes annually, ensuring efficient supply to the cash & carry centres, franchise supermarkets, and professional clients throughout the archipelago.

This Ingenio platform is one of five logistics centres that Transgourmet operates in Spain. The company boasts a range of 18,000 products and maintains a strong commitment to local and seasonal products. In Las Palmas, it collaborates with 61 local suppliers, from whom in 2024 it purchased products worth 10.6 million euros, thereby boosting the local economy and promoting responsible consumption.

The general director of Transgourmet Ibérica, Lluís Labairu, at a press lunch held in Gran Canaria to commemorate the company’s centenary, stated that “we firmly believe in the Canaries as a strategic region for the development of the company’s activities, and we will continue to strengthen our presence to contribute to the economic growth of the islands. Our commitment is reflected in the constant support for essential sectors such as hospitality, small commerce, and local supermarkets, which are key to sustaining tourism and the local economy.”

Transgourmet operates 4 GM Cash cash & carry centres (1 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1 in Lanzarote, and 2 in Tenerife) and has a network of nearly 20 franchise supermarkets. In total, it serves over 13,100 clients, with a workforce of 171 people, reinforcing its commitment to the local economy and stable employment.

The general director of Transgourmet also recalled the event held yesterday at the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria to commemorate its 100 years of history. The event was attended by over 300 people, including local and regional institutional representatives, sector members, clients, suppliers, and employees, who came to pay tribute to the company.

This event is part of a year full of commemorations the company is organising across Spain, which includes the presentation of a photographic exhibition on its trajectory, a documentary about the centenary, and the creation of the song “Somos fuertes,” a symbol of its identity and values. The centenary will culminate in a final event in Barcelona in November.
