The visit of Pope Leo XIV to the Canary Islands is also leaving behind stories beyond the grand stages. One such tale features Frutas y Verduras Nito, a company based in Tejina (La Laguna), which has received a very special order: to prepare 300 fruit trays for the team accompanying the pontiff during his stay in Tenerife.
From Tenerife’s Fields to the Team of Pope Leo XIV
What began as just another order turned into one of the most amusing anecdotes of the papal visit to the Canary Islands. Through their social media, “Nito” shared his surprise at announcing that they had received an order connected to the entourage of Leo XIV.
Watermelon Harvested in Tenerife and Prepared by the Company
One of the most notable details of the order is that part of the product comes directly from crops linked to the company itself.
In the video, the team explains that some of the fruits included in the trays, such as the watermelon, were harvested by them before being cut, prepared, and packaged for delivery. “I harvested them myself, we chopped them up, and we packaged them,” proudly explains the businessman, who admits to feeling both nervous and excited about such a unique order.
An Order that has Transformed Nito’s Routine
The preparation of the 300 trays has completely altered the company’s usual activities in recent hours. Amid jokes, hustle, and preparations, the workers have embraced the order as an extraordinary event. “The Pope has already arrived in Las Palmas and we still have all the fruit here. Get cracking!” one of them chuckles in the video shared on social media.
The post has intrigued numerous followers, who have celebrated that a local business is indirectly participating in one of the most significant events that the Canary Islands have experienced in recent years.
A Small Business in a Historic Visit
While thousands of people are following the events of Leo XIV in Tenerife, stories like that of Nito showcase the less visible side of organising such a monumental visit. From farmers and suppliers to volunteers and local businesses, dozens of people are working behind the scenes to ensure everything goes according to plan.
And among them is this company from Tejina, which can proudly claim to have received one of the most special orders in its history: to prepare 300 fruit trays for the entourage of Pope Leo XIV.
