The execution period for these works will be eight months, with a total budget exceeding one and a half million euros.
The Department of Works, Infrastructure, and Accessibility of La Laguna City Council has scheduled the commencement of the project for the adaptation, enhancement, and resurfacing of the Los Majuelos industrial estate this June. This area is one of the municipality’s primary industrial zones. The interventions are part of an agreement signed between the local council and the Cabildo of Tenerife, with both institutions funding the total project cost, which is estimated at around €1.6 million.
The Mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, highlighted that “this is one of the most ambitious projects of the year, responding to requests from local residents and the numerous businesses operating in the area. We are dealing with a location that experiences high traffic density and large delivery vehicles traversing these streets daily, resulting in significant wear on the roadway.”
The mayor further outlined that another pressing need identified in this industrial area pertains to the necessary improvement of access and public facilities currently in service, such as street lighting and electric vehicle charging points.
The council’s Works Councillor, Ángel Chinea, stated that “a significant portion of our efforts will be focused on improving the surface of all roads connecting this part of the municipality, using recycled materials for the new pavement. This approach makes the entire process much more sustainable and enhances the pavement’s durability.”
Regarding accessibility, plans are in place for the reconstruction and expansion of sidewalks, significantly increasing their width to ensure safe pedestrian passage and eliminating architectural barriers. This aligns with the principles of inclusivity promoted by the council in recent years.
In this area of action, a roundabout will also be constructed at the intersection of Avenida del Paso and Avenida Gandhi, thereby facilitating a more efficient flow of traffic, reducing potential traffic conflicts, and ensuring safer and more orderly access to this industrial zone.
Concerning public lighting, there will be a comprehensive upgrade to the streetlights on Las Mercedes, Tenderete, Punta Llana, Tijarafe, Fuencaliente, Garafía, and Puntagorda streets, replacing them with much more sustainable and efficient LED technology. This initiative aims to reduce energy costs, modernise these installations, and significantly decrease light pollution in the area.
Finally, in support of a more sustainable mobility model and the reduction of pollutant emissions, several simultaneous electric vehicle charging points will be installed, all coordinated through a comprehensive study previously conducted in the industrial estate to assess the actual needs for such devices.
