Binter schedules 16 flights for over a thousand affected by adverse weather in Tenerife North.

The airline Binter has scheduled sixteen special flights between Sunday 6th and Monday 7th July to accommodate 1,250 passengers who were affected by cancellations due to adverse weather at Tenerife North Airport.

The airline informed on Monday in a statement that it is continuing to assess the needs of affected travellers to arrange new flights if necessary.

The adverse weather conditions that affected the airport facility in northern Tenerife throughout Sunday led to the cancellation of 68 operations, both arrivals and departures, and the diversion of 16 flights to the airports of Tenerife South, Gran Canaria, or Fuerteventura. Despite the complicated situation at the airport, Binter operated 238 flights on Sunday, the statement added.

The Canary airline states that they worked from the very start, implementing various measures to try to minimise the impact on their passengers from the airport’s inoperability on a day of high activity.

To avoid cancellations, the company operated some domestic flights with Madrid and the Region of Murcia from Tenerife South Airport, providing ground transport between the two Tenerife airports.

Additionally, according to the company, affected travellers were assisted at the various airports, receiving meal vouchers and facilitating ground transport if a transfer to another airport was necessary.

Facilities were also provided to make modifications to flights, allowing passengers to change their tickets for another date through the issuing sales point or Binter’s customer service.

When designing the special recovery schedule, the airline paid particular attention to the island of La Palma, which is expecting a significant influx of visitors due to the celebration of its lustral festivals.
