SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE APR. (Press Europa) –

The Vice President and Tourism Councillor of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Lope Afonso, has urged this Thursday to “reconcile” the interests of visitors and holidaymakers in order to reduce the “tensions” on the island and to cultivate a tourism sector that creates a “positive impact.”

This conclusion emerged from the ‘I Tourism Congress 360: Towards a regenerative tourism’, which assembled esteemed national and international specialists for master presentations, debate panels, training capsules, and networking opportunities for suppliers and sustainable local brands.

“We must aim to lessen the impacts of tourism activities, diminish carbon footprint, and also promote responsible habits. Moreover, we should generate positive outcomes that aid in the recovery of degraded areas and equip communities with tools. In short, this should also foster a circular and clean economy, allowing markets to recognise Tenerife as an environmentally, socially, and economically responsible and sustainable island,” he stated in a note.

The CEO of Tourism for Tenerife, Dimple Melwani, who participated in the Congress panel on tourist governance, emphasised that “this congress has facilitated the sharing of insights among various guest experts and the sector, highlighting the significance of collaborative governance and a regenerative tourism approach as vital and priority elements in the agenda of any organisation aiming to effect a positive change in society and the environment.”

In her view, “tourist governance is an efficient management model predicated on the participation and cooperation of all stakeholders within the tourism value chain, both public and private, including civil society, to inform decision-making processes that will help mitigate the conflicts of interest that inevitably arise in tourism.”
