An alert has been issued for rainfall in La Palma, commencing at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday.
Madrid/Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Mar 30. (Europa Press) –
An anticyclonic system will bring stable weather to the mainland on Sunday, with predominantly clear skies, except for the Canarian archipelago where an approaching storm is expected to cause overcast conditions and locally heavy rainfall, as indicated by the State Meteorology Agency (Aemet).
Consequently, during the early hours, La Palma and El Hierro are under warning for storms or heavy rains, which may also resurface in the later hours of the day but will likely be less intense in Gran Canaria or Tenerife, accompanied by winds from the southeast.
Indeed, on the evening of Saturday, the General Emergency Department of the Government of the Canary Islands has declared an emergency alert for rains on the island of La Palma, while keeping a pre-alert status for El Hierro based on Aemet’s forecasts and other available data.
In La Gomera, rain is predicted to vary from light to moderate, particularly in the western slopes and inland areas during the latter part of the day, where intense showers are possible.
According to the latest update from Cecos 112, significant rainfall has been observed in La Palma, especially in the northeastern regions, with total precipitation exceeding 30 mm, resulting in isolated incidents in local municipalities, including a fallen tree blocking a road in La Pasada, rockfalls on the route to the port of Tazacorte, and sewage issues due to saturation in San Andrés and Sauces.
The Aemet indicates that intense rainfall may persist.
Rest of the nation
The Aemet reports that only cloudy conditions are expected in the vicinity of the Eastern Cantabrian and High Ebro regions.
Additionally, an orange warning has been issued for strong wind gusts in the Catalan Pyrenees, particularly in Ampurdan where gusts may reach up to 100 km/h. Furthermore, an orange alert is also in effect along the coastlines of Mallorca and Menorca, where waves could rise to between 4 and 7 metres high, alongside gusts of up to 85 km/h, with occasional showers anticipated towards the end of the day.
Regarding temperatures, maximums will decrease in the Balearic Islands and the central regions of the mainland, while rising in Andalusia, Ceuta, Melilla, Castilla y León, and the Canaries, with stable temperatures elsewhere in Spain. Thus, the temperature across the Peninsula will be uniform, ranging from 15ºC to 25ºC.
Overall, weather conditions will be stable on the day, with temperatures in the Peninsula reaching 24ºC in Pontevedra, 21ºC in southwest Andalusia, including Cádiz, Sevilla, and Córdoba, or 20ºC in Madrid and Barcelona.
Additionally, minimum temperatures will drop in the Pyrenees and southern Iberian regions by between 2ºC and 6ºC during the day. However, other areas of the country are expected to have lower temperatures, averaging between 2ºC and 3ºC across the Peninsula.
Therefore, Aemet cautions that frost may still occur in some regions. On Sunday morning, it will initially feel chilly in parts of the Iberian, such as Huesca, Teruel, and Cuenca, as well as in inland Peninsular areas like the Montes de León and parts of the central system in Ávila and Segovia.
