Santa Cruz de Tenerife 29 Mar. (Europa Press) –
The Public Tourism Company of the Canary Islands will participate this weekend in B-Travel, one of the largest trade fairs in Spain geared towards the end traveller, as well as in the Mediterranean Diving Show, the most significant exhibition for divers in Spain and one of the premier fairs in the sector across Europe.
Through these two events, Tourism of the Canary Islands aims to engage with Catalan travellers, noted for being “the most frequent travellers in Spain and exhibiting a strong interest” in exploring the archipelago’s landscapes, according to a statement from the Regional Department.
“We are eager as a destination to connect with Catalan tourists, who are inquisitive travellers keen on discovering our natural surroundings and participating in innovative experiences,” stated José Juan Lorenzo, the managing director of Tourism of the Canary Islands.
He elaborated that the Canary Islands continue to be among the top choices for these travellers, particularly the green islands, as many prefer to experience natural spots that are “unspoilt, sustainable and serene.”
The Ministry highlights that 30% of Catalan travellers select the Canary Islands for their summer holidays and 41% explore natural areas within the islands, alongside enjoying the beaches (64%).
A significant number of these tourists primarily seek additional information about nature-based activities and local gastronomy. Furthermore, they increasingly express interest in visiting two or even three islands during the same trip.
B-Travel Fair
B-Travel is one of the largest Spanish events tailored for the end traveller. It attracts travel agencies, hotels, transport firms and tourism service providers. The event takes place this weekend, serving as a precursor to the tourist campaign for the Easter holidays.
With 120 direct exhibitors and 600 indirect exhibitors, sustainable and quality destinations—both national and international—take centre stage at this event.
Within this gathering, Tourism of the Canary Islands showcases an area of 125 square metres, open on all sides and co-financed 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
Each stand features interactive screens for providing information in digital format. This year includes the return of the popular Zumería along with the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, which, through the public company managing rural affairs (Canary GMR), showcases the quality of the islands’ agri-food products to visitors.
Mediterranean Diving Show
Concurrently this weekend, Tourism of the Canary Islands will be present at the Mediterranean Diving Show, featuring 49 square metres and five stands representing Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma and El Hierro.
The presence at this fair is also co-financed 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER).
This event includes a national and international representation of over 140 exhibitors this year. It is the largest showcase for divers in Spain and one of the finest fairs in the sector across Europe.
The Ministry of Tourism emphasizes that the Canary Islands, with their biodiversity and remarkable underwater landscapes, are an ideal destination for diving activities, complemented by frequent flights from Barcelona, reaching up to 114 per week in July.
“This type of traveller shows interest in the destination as they tend to be more independent, with 60% not purchasing a tourist package compared to 50% overall. Additionally, their average daily expenditure, excluding flights, is higher, reaching €130 compared to €126 for the general average,” Lorenzo noted.
He added that they often opt for accommodation-only arrangements (40% vs. 33%), spend more than 12 hours outside their accommodation (14.8% vs. 8.6%), and visit two or more islands, accounting for 11.5% compared to 7% of the total.
