Unidas is calling on the City Council of La Laguna to explore alternatives that would enable the recovery and reopening of the municipal cafés that have been closed for nearly a decade in Parque La Vega and Constitución, “with no short-term plans for reopening.”
According to the council member, Idaira Afonso, “the evident state of neglect and degradation highlights the absence of essential services that these spaces should provide, such as accessible restrooms.” Since their closure in 2016, Unidas has been advocating for their re-establishment through the public company Muvisa, connecting them with employment integration initiatives for individuals with disabilities, similar to the parking facilities managed by the entity. This approach would restore these venues, providing a crucial service to the community while simultaneously promoting job opportunities for individuals often overlooked in inclusion programs.
Afonso notes that “the Consistory has been attempting to tender these concessions, but so far, they remain unawarded. This situation prevents them from being reopened or maintained. It also indicates a lack of essential services.”
