Labour absenteeism in the Canary Islands has escalated to alarming levels, with 8.1% of employees absent from their jobs, resulting in an annual expense of 2.4 billion euros for companies and 2.5 billion euros for social security. In light of this predicament, the Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations (CEOE) in Tenerife has announced the introduction of an anonymous complaints portal to detect potential fraudulent absences, as has been reported in the Canary Islands.
