The Cabildo is undertaking the refurbishment of the Silos Waste Transforming Station to support approximately 9,500 residents of this municipality and Garachico. This project, with an investment nearing 1.3 million euros, is being carried out by La Sacyr Aguas SL. The construction commenced at the end of August and is slated for completion within 16 months.
Blanca Pérez, the Minister of Natural Resources, clarifies that while the facility is operational, it was essential to incorporate Garachico into this new station. The minister asserts that “a more comprehensive treatment will be achieved.”
Pérez announces plans for the station to commence operations at the beginning of 2026. In this context, the insular councillor for natural environment, sustainability, security, and emergencies recalls that these initiatives are part of the Declaration of Water Emergency, which has recently been extended until February of the following year. She emphasises that “we are addressing the issue of drought and water treatment on multiple fronts.”
In the future, the Silos Waste Transforming Station will facilitate the initial processing of wastewater from collection points such as the quarry sites of lower and upper regions, San Bernardo, Los Silos, Las Quintas, Aregume, San José, and Sibora, along with inputs from the Treatment and Pumping Station (ETBAR) in Garachico. Adequate space for the construction of this pumping station has been allocated within the same area where the current works are underway.
The upgrade of the Silos Waste Treatment Station has been meticulously designed to include all necessary components for effective treatment of incoming flows. These features consist of a thick well, roughing, screening, sedimentation, fat separation, hypochlorite disinfection, and measurement of treated output flow before release into the existing emissary through a new architectural design. The Silense wastewater treatment facility will also incorporate a deodorisation system employing an absorbent bed for gas management and ensuring a suitable working environment, as noted by the Cabildo.
