SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
This Tuesday morning, two cayucos carrying nearly 150 migrants reached the islands of Tenerife and El Hierro, as reported by Maritime Rescue sources to Europa Press.
The larger of the two vessels was the one that arrived in Tenerife, with around one hundred individuals – pending a final tally on land – who were rescued following a call to 112 from the passengers and after being located by the Helimer 204, approximately three miles south of the island.
The migrants were rescued by the Salvamar Alpheratz, while the Salvamar Menkalinan towed the canoe to the port of Los Cristianos.
In the instance of El Hierro, the vessel was detected by the SIVE about three miles south of the island, prompting the Salvamar Adhara to head towards it, escorting the canoe safely into the port of La Restinga.
On board were 42 men and four women of sub-Saharan descent, all in good health. After receiving medical attention at the dock, there was no need for any hospital transfers.
