SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE Jan. 2 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Civil Guard has intervened to seize approximately 431 toys located in a bazaar in Granadilla de Abona, on the island of Tenerife, as they did not comply with the regulatory standards.
In a statement, the Benemérita emphasised that its Fiscal and Border units conduct significant preventive measures through inspections of businesses, identifying and removing, where necessary, toys that are deemed unsafe or possess inadequate labeling, which should not be available for purchase.
Among the establishments examined by the officers during this Christmas period, one in Granadilla de Abona was particularly notable, where a preventive confiscation of 431 toys occurred, 102 of which lacked the CE mark, ensuring basic safety criteria for products within the European Union.
Thus, the absence of this certification on toys could potentially expose children in the household to considerable risks of choking, poisoning or injury.
Additional toys removed from sale were due to the absence of labels or warnings in Spanish, and in many instances, there was no identifying name or contact details for the manufacturer, importer or distributor.
Following the inspection, a report was compiled, informing the proprietor of the premises of various violations of Royal Decree 1205/2011 regarding toy safety, where penalties for less severe infractions range from 150 to 10,000 euros, with the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumption of the Canary Islands being tasked with enforcing these penalties.
