Promoting the island as a destination for conference tourism in emerging markets such as the United States is one of the primary challenges set by the Cabildo of Tenerife for the upcoming year. This observation was made yesterday by Lope Afonso, the vice president of the Corporation and Minister of Tourism, during the Christmas gathering with associated companies held at the Museum of Nature and Archeology in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which saw attendance from over 250 representatives of more than 50 associated companies.
Lope Afonso elaborated that by 2025, efforts will focus on three strategic pillars: sustainability, governance, and digitalisation and innovation. “We will strive to enhance profitability by marketing the island as an ideal location for sports, nature, culture, traditions, gastronomy, and heritage, while also actively listening to residents, improving the tourist experience, and raising awareness of the value that tourism brings,” he stated. “Sustainability will guide the initiatives to be undertaken next year and regarding governance, we will endeavour to strengthen collaboration with various sectors of the Cabildo, local councils, and the Government of the Canary Islands to achieve shared objectives,” he added.
On an international scale, Afonso noted that tourism “will continue to enhance the connectivity of the destination by acquiring new routes while also focusing on consolidating existing markets.” “They place their trust in the Island.” In addition to the commitment towards event tourism in emerging markets, the Cabildo plans to revise the Tenerife Tourism marketing strategy for 2025-2028.
Furthermore, initiatives that “promote the circular economy and regenerative tourism” will be undertaken, and the local market will be advanced through “innovative initiatives.” “An expanded training programme will be developed for our professionals alongside the enhancement of our tourism infrastructure, from visitor spaces to our information centres and digital content that enriches the visitor experience,” stated Afonso.
“In terms of innovation and digitalisation, we will continue to advocate for initiatives that enable data-driven decisions, digitise the destination, and enhance the overall sector’s efficiency to bolster competitiveness,” Afonso concluded.
