Two additional canoes, one carrying 51 migrants and the other 66, reached La Restinga Dock in El Hierro on Sunday morning, following their discovery by a rower from an ocean regatta approximately 96 miles south of the island, as reported by Maritime Rescue.
The Red Cross noted that it was the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre (Cecoes) 112 that notified around 10:25 p.m. regarding the imminent arrival of an irregular vessel that had been rescued by the state agency to the port of El Hierro.
Once ashore, the medical team attended to the 117 occupants of the canoe at around 6:00 a.m., all of whom appeared to be in good health.
Throughout this weekend, a total of 297 migrants have arrived in the Canary Islands aboard five boats, four of which landed in El Hierro and one in Gran Canaria.
