SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE December 7 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Acrux Maritime Rescue team accompanied a vessel carrying 60 migrants during the early hours of Saturday morning when they were approximately nine kilometres (5 nautical miles) from El Hierro, as reported by the official agency.
This escort occurred following a radar detection by the Civil Guard of a potential cayuco around 4:35 a.m., close to nine kilometres from the La Restinga dock in El Pinar.
The Maritime Rescue Centre in Tenerife subsequently deployed the Acrux rescue unit, which discovered and guided the boat to La Restinga port, where 60 individuals of sub-Saharan descent disembarked, including three women and two minors.
Furthermore, at around 8:50 a.m. on Saturday, the port security officer at La Restinga reported the sighting of a second canoe in the area, although it did not actually make landfall.
The Maritime Rescue Centre then sent out the Adhara rescue team alongside the Mike 02 unit from the Tenerife Red Cross, who located and escorted this vessel to the port, containing 68 migrants, as stated by the Emergency and Security Coordinating Centre of 112 of the Canary Islands.
Upon arrival at the port, medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), Red Cross, and Primary Care attended to the migrants, with two individuals requiring evacuation to a hospital.
