The Cabildo of Tenerife has taken a significant step towards sustainable governance in Anaga by awarding the contract for the formulation and preparation of the Sustainable Mobility Strategy within the Macizo de Anaga Biosphere Reserve. The project, which will be executed by Colin Buchanan Consultores SA, is set to span a duration of 12 months and involves an investment of 114,345.81 euros, supported by European Next Generation funds.
Blanca Pérez (CC), the Minister of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Security, and Emergencies, clarified that the objective of this Sustainable Mobility Strategy for the Anaga Massif Reserve is to “create a sustainable framework for organising and managing mobility within the area, proposing actions necessary to enhance the current situation and optimise the use of the spaces designated for infrastructure and communication systems in the Anaga Massif.”
“The main aim of this initiative is to collaboratively develop this document in consultation with the local councils managing the municipal roads, the neighbourhood associations of Anaga Rural Park, as well as other involved social entities and, crucially, the affected community,” added the nationalist councillor.
Intelligent system
Blanca Pérez also pointed out that “we have numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing mobility in Anaga, including surveys among residents and the procurement of an intelligent control system that will enable us to collect data on vehicles and individuals visiting the area.”
In this context, it is important to recall that last November the Government Council approved the bidding for this system, which represents an investment of approximately 451,000 euros and has an implementation period of 15 months. This will enable sophisticated analysis of mobility patterns, identifying peak times of congestion and offering adaptive solutions for more effective management of visitor surges.
The Sustainable Mobility Strategy within the Macizo de Anaga Biosphere Reserve will encompass an analysis and assessment derived from the collection of various data and information processing, and will delineate the actions necessary to realise the intended mobility model, alongside the budget required for its initiation and development.
