SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 19 Nov. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife has commenced awarding grants to the municipalities of the island of Tenerife for the promotion of local employment across various councils, an initiative that entails an investment of 10 million euros.
In this context, the Minister of Employment and Education, Efraín Medina, notes in a statement that the disbursement of the grants has proceeded following the complete justification for the years 2021 and 2022, and “the resolution is underway to authorise these funds with the intention of commencing such projects during 2025.”
The programmes will particularly prioritise the involvement of individuals under 30 years of age, as well as those who have been long-term unemployed, with women required to constitute at least 50% of the hires.
Consequently, the funding will enable approximately 1,000 individuals to receive training, of which 750 will obtain a contract within their localities to engage in projects of local and social significance.
The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila, commended the efforts made by the Department of Employment to expedite the provision of grants and remarked that “Tenerife has emerged as the employment engine of the Canary Islands, and these achievements indicate we are on the right track, yet we must not become complacent.”
He expressed, “we shall persist in supporting investment policies and initiatives to enhance employability, further facilitating the recovery and economic advancement of our island.”
In this regard, Efraín Medina characterised the work undertaken by the department as “commendable,” recognising the need to update justifications to successfully resolve and allocate the ten million euros designated for this project, “which is one million euros more than in prior years.”
Furthermore, the councillor stated that the grants will be utilised to support projects dedicated to implementing works or services of general and social utility that contribute to enhancing the community development of the island’s municipalities.
In these initiatives, training aspects are emphasised, and gross salary amounts as well as contributions to Social Security will be subsidised.
HERITAGE AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY
The proposed projects aim to enhance the natural and cultural heritage of the municipalities, promote energy efficiency, educate for sustainability, facilitate the effective use of information technologies, develop equality plans, boost local tourism, improve urban environments, and manage waste effectively.
Additionally, favourable consideration is being given to projects associated with water emergencies, enhancements in social welfare services, and the promotion of economic development across all sectors.
The profiles to be recruited by the municipalities will include both qualified and unqualified positions, along with coordination and support roles that will require specific training relevant to each position.
Medina indicated that, in this round, municipalities with fewer than 5,000 inhabitants will receive special attention in this call, following a request from the Canary Federation of Municipalities, as discussed in the Territorial Administration Council of Tenerife.
“The Employment Area is striving to ensure that before December 15, the majority of applications from other Local Corporations can be resolved,” he stated.
The initial municipalities to receive grants for the development of their projects include San Miguel de Abona, Adeje, El Rosario, El Sauzal, Tacoronte, Los Silos, and Buenavista.
