SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 28 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, Tenerife Tourism, and the Repsol Guide have proclaimed today, Monday, that the island will, for the first time, host the presentation of the Repsol Guide Suns in its 2025 edition. This event is scheduled for March 17 and will take place at the Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Operating under the motto ‘The Sun rises in Tenerife’, the occasion will transform Santa Cruz and the entire island of Tenerife into the Spanish culinary capital. Furthermore, various initiatives will be organised around the Gala, enabling citizens to partake in the celebrations of this culinary festival.
The vice president and Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, was present for the signing of the agreement; alongside him were the CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, Dimple Melwani; the director of the Repsol Guide, María Ritter; and the brothers Juan Carlos and Jonathan Padrón from ‘El Rincón de Juan Carlos’ (Tres Soles Repsol Guide), along with other chefs from the 46 restaurants awarded Soles in Tenerife.
“Today we take another step, a solid step, with unwavering determination to place ourselves at the centre of national gastronomy through one of its most esteemed events, the Gala de los Soles 2025 of the Repsol Guide,” expressed Lope Afonso.
“Today is a fortuitous day, not only because we can announce the Gala de los Soles 2025 of the Repsol Guide in Tenerife, but also as we make crucial strides to ensure Tenerife remains a benchmark, engaging a significant part of our society and economy,” he further commented.
According to Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tourism of Tenerife, hosting the Gala de los Soles of the Repsol Guide “presents a tremendous opportunity for Tenerife and its tourism profile, highlighting our gastronomy, talent, and the significant potential of our island.” “It is yet another demonstration of the significant efforts we are making on the island to enhance visibility and value of our local products, wines, and the professionals throughout the entire value chain,” she stated.
“The gastronomy of Tenerife has evolved into a crucial and strategic sector that fosters social and economic growth, capable of generating employment, safeguarding our cultural heritage, and further promoting culinary tourism as a tourist draw,” declared Melwani. “In this context, we aim to celebrate this remarkable culinary festival alongside residents and visitors, who will be active participants and able to partake in various activities we will hold across the island parallel to the gala,” she added.
“Tenerife has been pursuing a clever strategy for years that elevates local gastronomy and products reflective of our location, with which the Repsol Guide resonates strongly. We are mutually in search of new talents that embrace their roots while appreciating the initiatives that have aimed to let their identity shine on their plates from the very start,” underscored María Ritter, director of the Repsol Guide.
“It was about time to establish a partnership that enhances the visibility of a cuisine with immense potential and unique products that can only be experienced here. A gastronomy that denotes a culture sustained through the transmission of knowledge across generations,” she added.
Juan Carlos Padrón remarked that Tenerife “is evolving and so are the Suns; there is no better measure than the Repsol Guide to witness it.” “This is exceptionally significant for Tenerife’s gastronomy. We will once again place Tenerife on the national stage with this grand event,” he highlighted.
ALMOST 50 RESTAURANTS WITH ‘SUN’.
Currently, Tenerife boasts a total of 46 eateries rated in the Repsol Guide: 1 with Tres Soles, 5 with Dos Soles, 13 with One Sol, and 27 that are Recommended.
Since its inception in 1979, the Repsol Guide has established itself as a key reference in promoting tourism and gastronomy in Spain. Millions of individuals rely on the Repsol Guide annually for inspiration and guidance to plan their journeys and discover new destinations.
In recent years, the Repsol Guide has undergone a transformation to keep pace with evolving trends in tourism and gastronomy. Its Suns rating system incorporates considerations such as sustainability, local sourcing, integration, the circular economy, and coherence of projects that must be evident in kitchens, premises, presentation, and wine selection.
The Repsol Guide is dedicated to showcasing the richness of Spanish cuisine. For its 2024 edition, the Repsol Guide enlisted nearly seventy inspectors who are well-versed in the culinary offerings of each region in Spain. These inspectors, hailing from diverse professional backgrounds, have no direct connections to the hospitality industry but share a fervour for gastronomy and the pursuit of those restaurants deserving recognition and recommendation.
