The Vice President of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso, highlights that this marks another “step” towards placing the island on the national gastronomic map.
SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 28th October (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife, Tenerife Tourism, and the Repsol Guide have announced that the island will be the host for the ‘Repsol Guide Suns’ presentation for the first time in its 2025 edition on 17th March at the Guimerá Theatre in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The ‘Repsol Guide Suns’ ceremony not only honours Spain’s finest restaurants for their exceptional performance and careers but also serves as a significant event for the Spanish culinary community, represented by over 200 chefs from across Spain, alongside distinguished figures, institutions, and accredited media from throughout the country.
The gala will be available for live streaming, as reported by the Cabildo in a statement.
With the theme ‘The Sun rises in Tenerife’, the event is set to transform Santa Cruz and the entire island of Tenerife into the culinary capital of Spain.
Additionally, various activities will be organised around the gala to involve the public in this gastronomic celebration.
Lope Afonso, the Vice President and Minister of Tourism of the Cabildo, attended the agreement signing alongside Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tourism of Tenerife; María Ritter, director of the Repsol Guide; and brothers Juan Carlos and Jonathan Padrón from ‘El Rincón de Juan Carlos’ (Tres Soles Repsol Guide), along with other chefs from the 46 restaurants designated with Soles de Tenerife.
Afonso remarked that “another step has been taken, a decisive step with great resolve to position ourselves at the forefront of national gastronomy through one of its most prestigious events, the Gala de los Soles 2025 of the Repsol Guide”.
In line with this, he expressed his delight not only at the opportunity to announce the Gala de los Soles 2025 of the Repsol Guide in Tenerife but also because crucial advancements are being made to ensure that Tenerife remains a reference point, engaging a significant portion of society and the economy in the process.
Dimple Melwani, CEO of Tenerife Tourism, stated that hosting the Repsol Guide’s Gala of the Suns “is a tremendous opportunity for Tenerife and its tourism potential, highlighting our gastronomy, our talent, and the vast opportunities our island has to offer”.
He further articulated that “this exemplifies the considerable efforts being made on the island to enhance visibility and appreciation of our local products, wines, and the professionals across the entire value chain at both national and international levels”.
Melwani emphasised that “Tenerife’s gastronomy has become a vital and strategic sector, driving social and economic growth, generating employment, preserving cultural heritage, and continuing to promote gastronomic tourism as a key attraction”.
For this reason, he pointed out that they “aspire to celebrate this grand gastronomic festival with residents and visitors, allowing them to participate and enjoy various activities alongside the gala”.
A “SMART STRATEGY”
María Ritter, director of the Repsol Guide, noted that “Tenerife has been implementing a clever strategy for years that highlights native gastronomy and products that embody the region, with which the Repsol Guide feels a strong affinity.”
She elaborated that “we are both on the lookout for new talents reclaiming their roots while also valuing projects that have, from the outset, aimed for their identity to shine through their food”.
She added that “this was the right moment to forge an alliance that enhances the visibility of cuisine with immense potential and unique products available only here, a gastronomy that reflects a culture preserved through the passing of knowledge across generations”.
Juan Carlos Padrón remarked that “Tenerife is flourishing, and so too are the Suns; there is no better way to showcase this than through the Repsol Guide, a significant milestone for Tenerife’s gastronomy, re-establishing its place on the national stage through this remarkable event”.
At present, Tenerife boasts a total of 46 restaurants with gastronomic acclaim in the Repsol Guide: 1 with Tres Soles, 5 with Dos Soles, 13 with One Sol, and 27 Recommended.
