The Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council, via the Department of Strategic Planning, Environmental Sustainability and Public Services, has entered into a partnership agreement with the Metrópoli Foundation to advance the creation of a new municipal model that capitalises on the extensive use of information and communication technologies. This partnership aims to address the city’s challenges from an innovative, efficient, and sustainable viewpoint.
This collaborative agreement entails an evaluation of the current information regarding the territory, the ongoing plans and projects, as well as considerations in planning, urban design, and architecture, including future strategic projects within these sectors.
The mayor of Santa Cruz, José Manuel Bermúdez, expressed that “this agreement will enable us to adapt to changes and tackle the emerging issues through the analysis of data produced by the city, its residents, community involvement, and cooperation from businesses located in Santa Cruz.”
Additionally, the Councillor for Public Services, Environmental Sustainability, and Strategic Planning, Carlos Tarife, elaborated that “through this agreement, which will span four years, initiatives will be implemented surrounding competitiveness, innovation, and development in Santa Cruz”, for which “we will share information, knowledge, experiences, and new methods for the sustainable design of the capital.”
Notably, there will be joint efforts to secure sponsorship for the execution of these activities, identifying strategic partnership opportunities with national and international stakeholders that can aid in advancing the work plan outlined in the agreement.
Moreover, this collaboration is anticipated to yield significant contributions in the form of comprehensive references for revising the Santa Cruz Strategic Plan and developing the Santa Cruz Verde 2030 project.
According to the aims of this agreement, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Project aspires to leverage the municipality’s exceptional components, its surroundings, and its distinctive values to foster a future initiative that enhances and diversifies the island’s economic framework and employment prospects, whilst also addressing new sustainability challenges that are particularly pertinent in an island ecosystem.
This initiative aims to provide benchmarks for territorial and urban development within the municipality and its metropolitan area, identifying strategic projects and initiatives that will encourage competitiveness, productive diversification, environmental sustainability, and the human development of the local population.
The objective is to create a territorial project endorsed by robust social and institutional backing that facilitates the guiding of local initiatives, both public and private, based on shared and mutually agreed-upon goals, as well as aligning sectoral actions and coordinating interventions within the territory to be executed from regional and national levels.
The Metrópoli Foundation is a distinguished international institution focused on creating and disseminating innovations in the realm of urban centres and territories.
