SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE 15 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife is commemorating the 50th anniversary of the public company Mercatenerife with a gala this Friday at the ‘Adán Martín’ Auditorium, in which the island institution holds a majority stake.
This initiative was showcased on Tuesday by the councillor for the Primary Sector, Valentín González, alongside the manager of Mercatenerife, Alejandro González.
Valentín González emphasised that “we celebrate five decades of dedication to Tenerife and its residents, as Mercatenerife is an organisation with deep connections to the community and closely linked to the island’s agriculture.” He further remarked that “throughout the history of this company, it has established itself as a platform for the distribution and sale of local seasonal products.”
The Primary Sector Minister stressed that Mercatenerife “represents the hard work and commitment of many farmers in Tenerife and has experienced the changes brought about by innovation and technology within the agricultural sector.”
Valentín González also underscored “the Cabildo’s dedication to Mercatenerife, focusing on values such as energy efficiency, food sovereignty, and sustainability from economic, social, and environmental standpoints,” announcing that in 2025 the island institution “will invest 4.6 million euros in enhancing the infrastructure of this entity, with the aim of continuing to improve the services we offer, considering that Mercatenerife sells 80 tonnes of fruit and vegetables annually (2023), of which 44% are locally sourced.”
In turn, the entity’s manager, Alejandro Fernández, stated that this gala “is intended as a tribute to the clients and employees of Mercatenerife, aiming to shine a spotlight on both the entity and the local products while particularly recognising the producers from Tenerife.”
