The Local Police of Puerto de la Cruz cordoned off the premises that previously accommodated the Colegio de Los Agustinos due to the potential risk of collapse following the failure of the roof in one of its rooms. This building, situated in the historical heart of the municipality, is privately owned, being a shared asset between an individual and the Diocese of Tenerife.
A notification to the local authorities alerted them to the incident, prompting immediate action. It seems that the roof failure likely occurred during the night, as a charity flea market was held there earlier in the day, and local residents did not report any alarming sounds, according to this publication.
This report has also been forwarded to the Heritage Department of the Cabildo de Tenerife so that suitable actions can be taken, given that the Special Plan for the Historic Centre of Puerto de la Cruz has yet to receive final approval. “The response from the Town Hall was comparable to that concerning the La Estrella petrol station,” noted the councillor.
The Council has been endeavouring to acquire the property for several years, and there have been some attempts in this regard, but the sale has not been completed to date.
