The City Council of La Guancha has announced on Friday the implementation of a general restriction on water consumption from the municipal supply network as a precautionary measure across the entire municipality.
The restriction includes a ban on using tap water for drinking, cooking, and food preparation until further notice, as stated by the local authorities.
This measure is necessary due to elevated levels of fluoride in the water, a consequence of the recent lack of rainfall and multiple malfunctions in the distribution network. These issues have led to a significant surge in water demand and a decline in the levels of the municipal tanks.
The goal of this restriction is to ensure an adequate water supply for essential domestic activities and personal hygiene, thereby preventing a more severe problem for the community.
Moreover, the desalination process of a portion of the water entering the tanks has been suspended to allow for the introduction of ‘raw water’ and expedite the restoration of proper water levels in all municipal storage facilities.
