PSOE Tenerife criticizes Cabildo’s low spending on water generation during emergency.

The Tenerife branch of the PSOE has accused the Cabildo on Wednesday of only executing less than 5.5% of its budget for this year. The budget allocated for the company Balsas de Tenerife (Balten) is 17.15 million Euros in a critical drought situation that led to the declaration of a water emergency on the island.

Socialist councillor Javier Parrilla emphasized in a statement that their group supported declaring a water emergency in the hope of improving the situation. They expected the inclusion of a rapid plan to increase water access for farmers. However, only 939,674.36 Euros of the 17.15 million Euros budget for Balsas de Tenerife (Balten) has been utilised halfway through the year. This minimal use of public funds is criticised by Parrilla, given the sector’s struggles.

Parrilla insists that this water emergency declaration grants authority to carry out necessary works promptly through emergency procedures. According to the councillor, the Tenerife Government has failed to implement these urgent works and investments efficiently.

The socialist group highlights that the budget allocated for investments and credit transfers in Balsas de Tenerife (Balten), focusing on addressing drought-related needs this year, exceeds 17 million Euros. They criticise the Council for using only 939,674.36 Euros, a meagre 5.48%, mainly corresponding to projects initiated by the previous government led by Pedro Martín.

The current status of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing sector (referred to as Commerce, Industry and Primary Sector) indicates neglect towards the island’s productive sector. They blame Rosa Dávila’s leadership (CC) for incompetence and deception, accusing her of prioritising appearance over action. The group asserts that Dávila offers water, but nothing substantial.
