SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, 13th August (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty of the Government of the Canary Islands has released a call for assistance for the exchange of dairy cattle with locally born heifers in the archipelago (subaction III.2.5) of the Community Program of Support for Agricultural Production in the Canary Islands (POSEI) for the 2024 season, as published today in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC).
With the aim of promoting the substitution of dairy cattle by increasing the proportion of animals of domestic origin, farmers who possess dairy cows and opt for using heifers born on local farms in the Canary Islands for replacement will be eligible for this support initiative, according to the Ministry.
The budget allocated for this initiative, which is funded by the European Agricultural Guarantee Fund (EAGF), amounts to 200,000 euros. The aid will be provided at a rate of 1,000 euros per head of livestock, with an annual replacement cap of 40% of the breeding stock for each farm.
Interested parties wishing to apply for these grants must submit their requests between 16th and 31st October 2024, inclusive, through the online platform of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.
