Tenerife Man Under Investigation for €15,000 Car Scam

The Civil Guard is conducting an investigation into a 42-year-old man suspected of defrauding over 15,000 Euros by selling vehicles that were never delivered to the buyers.

A statement from the Civil Guard mentions that agents from the Investigation area of the Main Post of Playa de las Américas are looking into this man for allegedly committing three crimes of fraud, misappropriation, and falsification of license plates.

The Civil Guard authorities were alerted to the fraudulent activities after receiving complaints, where three victims claimed to have paid the suspect certain sums for the purchase and sale of vehicles or spare parts that he was supposed to import from Germany to the islands.

However, upon arrival of the vehicles and parts, the individual, now under investigation, allegedly demanded additional payments from the victims, citing the need to sell the vehicle to a third party if the requested payment was not made.

During the investigation, the agents discovered that one of the victims, who refused to make the demanded second payment, had the vehicle sold and transferred to another individual residing on the island of La Gomera.

Another vehicle, which was also not delivered to the buyer, was found in a workshop awaiting repairs, with an outstanding payment of 1,668.93 Euros.

Furthermore, the authorities uncovered that the suspect had allegedly tampered with the export license plates of both vehicles, falsifying them by altering the expiration dates on the red stickers of the plates acquired in Germany to extend the period they could be driven legally in Spain.

As a result of the investigation, the agents have collected sufficient evidence and leads pointing towards the alleged involvement of the individual under scrutiny.

The case has been referred to the Arona Court of First Instance for further proceedings.
