The Department of Roads and Mobility of the Tenerife Council has initiated the construction of the northern ramp of the pedestrian walkway at the Padre Anchieta roundabout, situated at the entrance to La Laguna, on Monday evening.
The construction involved putting together the first of four pieces, measuring 16 metres in length and weighing 19 tonnes, which will form the entrance to the pedestrian walkway from La Trinidad Avenue.
The assembly work continued through the night yesterday and is scheduled to proceed until 6:00 a.m. this Friday, resulting in the closure of Avenida de la Trinidad from the Padre Anchieta roundabout to Calle Pedro Zerolo.
The Padre Anchieta pedestrian walkway comprises a significant central ring and three access ramps (Northern, Eastern, and Loop). Presently, there are 5 out of the 11 modules that make up the extensive central ring and the 4 modules that constitute the northern ramp on the island.
The installation of the five modules of the central ring is planned for the first half of September, and preliminary work will be conducted during August to set up the provisional formwork essential for ensuring the stability of the central ring during its assembly.
The President of the island, Rosa Dávila, expressed satisfaction with the advancement of the works and emphasised that this structure represents “one of the most innovative infrastructures in Europe, which will enhance” the conditions of mobility and safety in the region.
In this context, the Minister for Mobility, Eulalia García, stated that the walkway will aid in “enhancing the traffic flow in one of the most problematic areas in terms of traffic congestion on the TF-5, thus facilitating the movement of both vehicles and pedestrians, introducing enhanced security measures in the area and promoting mobility.”
